August is a unique time of year here โ the big music festivals have come and gone, and local residents are yearning for something different. Well, does Ottawa ever have you covered this year! Sink your teeth โ literally, in some cases โ into some of these tantalizing and unique August events in the area.

Ottawa Greekfest (August 15-25)
This month is just all about food, isnโt it? And hey, thatโs totally fine with us โ especially with the annual Ottawa Greekfest rolling into town soon! This 11-day foodieโs paradise is all about experiencing authentic Greek culture โ and, of course, that means food that makes our mouths water just by thinking about it. Of course, there are also live cultural demonstrations, traditional dances and incredible Greek music performances to experience, plus even language lessons! This festival really has something for everyone, from local Greeks to those excited to experience their customs โ and food.
We still canโt get over that food. Itโs just so good.
Capital Pride Festival (August 18-25)
Become inspired, surround yourself with love and enjoy an incredible day โ or eight, if you stick around โ at the annual Capital Pride Festival! At the end of the month, the city will become festooned with balloons, confetti, rainbow flags aplenty, and all sorts of exciting festivities. Youโre sure to make new friends and have a blast, so go ahead and take in the colourful antics of the parade as it parties down Kent and Bank streets. Aside from that, thereโs also a family-friendly picnic at Hintonburg park, a youth art showcase, the Pride Pageant featuring drag superstar Brooke Lynn Hytes, and extravaganzas aplenty including a street festival, clothing swaps and much more! Itโs set to be a fierce, fun, and fascinating celebration of modern values that youโll be glad you didnโt miss!ย
Capital Fair (August 16 to 25)
A demolition derby unlike any other. Monster trucks. Street dance battles. A petting zoo.ย
And the biggest draw? Two words: Stunt. Dogs.ย
It can only mean one thing โ the Capital Fair is back! It feels like itโs been forever, but itโs only been a year: This is the ultimate way to close out summer and say hello to harvest season โ a massive midway full of rides and games, a seemingly endless array of events for all ages and interests, live music galore, and so very much more! The five-dollar gate admission gives you access to everything from the iconic demolition derby Doo Dooโs dance party for the kids (what? Doo Doo rules!) plus access to vendors aplenty. There are plenty of different passes available for the midway as well, and they offer a huge value considering how big this fair really is!ย
Thereโs a reason itโs one of the most iconic events in Ottawa: Itโs awesome! Get on over there, grab a cotton candy the size of your head, and indulge in some carnival fun.
Nostalgia Music Festival (August 21-24)
You thought the season of crazy music festivals was over, right? Think again! Nostalgia Music Festival is taking over LeBreton Flats in just a few days, and you wonโt want to miss out on the performers hitting the stage. Itโs a gigantic celebration of some of the best cover bands around, complete with some pretty convincing attire and even more convincing performances. Whether youโre into ABBA, CCR, Journey, Rod Stewart, or others, all the greats are here in spirit. You wonโt regret swinging by for a step back in time!
