Recreation Programs and Classes


Paint Night
Follow an experienced instructor and create your own art masterpiece. All experience levels welcome and all supplies are included.

Join us in for a fun-filled evening of trivia! You’ll have a chance to win prizes as you collaborate with your community while showing off your impressive knowledge of trivia.

Bird Watching Tours
Join our certified Naturalist to explore the local area while bird watching. The tour will be departing from the Accora Centre and heading down to the Ottawa river.

Learn to Canoe
Led by certified instructors from the Ottawa River Canoe Club, this recreational canoe course will introduce you and your canoe partner to the basic handling and strokes of this beautiful and versatile boat. Departing from the Nepean Sailing Club, classes are on the Ottawa River for 2-3 hours.

Enjoy Bingo Night with your family and friends! Bingo cards are available for pick up or can be delivered. Advance registration is required.

Cross Country Skiing
Learn to Cross Country Ski with Accora Village and the Kanata Nordic Ski club. The program is offered free of charge, and there are no trail fees or equipment rental fees. The program is run by Kanata Nordic volunteers.

Take part in a free instructor-led snowshoe hike along the Britannia Winter trail. Snowshoe rentals are free.

Standard First Aid
Learn Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid. We provide comprehensive training and cover all aspects of first aid and CPR.


Recreation Programs

These high energy dance classes teach rhythm, coordination, and balance with age-appropriate movements set to fun upbeat music. Enjoy different dances including: Hip Hop, ballet and Jazz! Wear your dancing shoes and show off your moves!

Children will discover how fun it is to create art while they learn the fundamentals. Class participants will explore a variety of techniques and mediums such as textiles, paint, and sculpture.

Science Fun
Conduct science experiments and learn engineering techniques. Discover the science behind bottle rocket experiments, slime, baking soda and vinegar experiments. Each class participant will build their own birdhouse and bridge.

Private Tutoring
We’ll help your child realize their full potential through individualized learning plans that lead to academic success in a variety of subjects: Math, Science, English, and French.

Private Music lessons are available in 30-minute blocks for piano, ukulele and guitar.

Creative Writing
Introduction to the basics of writing and storytelling with our recreation facilitator. Learn new writing skills, explore your imagination and make new friends.

Code Club
Free coding clubs for children aged 8-12. By providing easy to follow step-by-step guides, we will help children learn Scratch by making games, animations, and websites. Code Club Canada is a project with the Montreal-based national non-profit organization, Kids Code Jeunesse. The projects gradually introduce coding concepts to allow children to build their knowledge incrementally. The program will be delivered virtually.

Babysitting Course
The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours in children to leadership and professional babysitter conduct. Babysitting younger children deepens and enhances older youth’s sense of responsibility.

Out of School Care
Participate in an after-school program that is filled with arts, crafts, activities, sports, and games. Our leaf program offers a fun and welcoming atmosphere where we assist with homework, offer fun filled activities and a reading club.

PD Day Camp
Children will uncover their artistic, sporty, and adventurous sides in a fun camp that offers arts, crafts, outdoor play, and swimming.

March Break Camp
Join us for a week that is filled with arts, crafts, science experiments, and fun outdoor activities. Camp hours are between 8:30am – 4:30p.m. Pre and Post camp care available.

Summer Camp
Accora Village offers camps for children ages 4 – 6, 7 – 9 and 10 – 12. Camps feature a different theme each week with activities including arts, crafts, outdoor play, and a daily swim. The camp day starts and ends at the Accora Centre and most camp activities take place in and around the Accora Village community. Some camps may make use of public transport or school buses for excursions outside of Accora Village.


Preschool Drop-In
For children who do not yet attend school, our fun, welcoming playgroup provides the opportunity to socialize with other children as they play, listen to stories, and sing songs.

Swim to Survive
This free program teaches the three main skills that the Lifesaving Society has deemed essential for survival of an unexpected fall into deep water. You will learn how to roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute and Swim 50m.

Pinecrest Queensway
In additional to providing health and neighbourhood support, Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centres also provides services that assist in community development and building and career advancement.

Toy Lending Library
Pinecrest Queensway Health Unit operates a Toy Lending Library within Accora Village.

Junior Lifeguard Club
The Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) offers serious fun for kids 8 years and up who can swim at least 25 metres and tread water for 2 minutes. The Junior Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water and want more than “lessons.”

Homework Club
The Ottawa Public Library provides access to a Google Chromebook with internet for residents of Accora Village to use in the Party Room at the Recreation Centre. Participants will be supervised by a recreation facilitator who can assist with homework and study.

Youth Gym
We provide scheduled sports and activities for the youth in our community, including basketball, soccer and floor hockey.

Open Gym
If you want to practice your skills or want to participate in a quick pick-up game, feel free to stop by.

Open Swim
Residents of all ages are welcome to enjoy the swimming pool. All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 14 years of age. Admission standards still apply. See pool schedule for available times.
